Trauma-Informed Course Design
Create online courses and learning experiences that centre choice, accessibility, agency and thoughtful adult learning.
Ready to Create Online Courses?
Trauma-informed practice does not stop when we move into teaching.
The way a course is structured, the language we use, the expectations we set and the amount of choice we offer can all affect how supported, overwhelmed or included someone feels within a learning environment.
This course is being developed for people who want to create online learning that is clear, engaging and genuinely supportive of different ways of processing, participating and learning.
What We’ll Explore
The training will explore many facets of creating online courses in a trauma-informed way including:
trauma-informed principles in adult learning
structuring and sequencing learning without unnecessary overwhelm
building choice and agency into course participation
creating clearer expectations, instructions and learning pathways
accessibility and different ways of engaging with material
writing course content and communications with greater care
balancing support with learner autonomy
The emphasis will be practical: helping you turn these principles into decisions about how your course actually works.
Designing for Real People
People arrive in learning spaces with different levels of confidence, capacity, experience and support.
Some learners want structure. Others need flexibility. Some process information quickly, while others need time, repetition or different ways to engage.
Trauma-informed course design asks us to consider those differences from the beginning rather than expecting every learner to adapt to one fixed way of learning.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is for anyone who creates— or want to create — online courses, training programmes, workshops or educational resources.
It may be particularly useful if you already understand trauma-informed facilitation and want to bring the same principles into the way you teach and design learning experiences.
