Perinatal Breathwork Practitioner

Specialist training for supporting people through pregnancy, the postnatal period and matrescence with greater confidence, care and scope awareness.

Pregnancy, birth and the transition into parenthood can bring significant physical, emotional and nervous system changes. Breathwork can be a valuable support, but working well in this space requires a thoughtful understanding of physiology, contraindications, individual variation, consent and scope of practice.

This training is being developed to help breathwork professionals work more safely and appropriately with people during the perinatal period, while recognising the limits of their role and the importance of referral, choice and collaborative care.

Two Training Pathways Available

There will be two ways to complete this training:

1) Breathwork Coach with a Perinatal & Matrescence Speciality

For people who are new to professional breathwork training, this pathway will include our 50-hour Breathwork Coach certification alongside specialist learning in pregnancy, postnatal and matrescence-informed practice.

It is designed for people who want to build a strong foundation in breathwork coaching while developing a particular focus in this area.

2) Perinatal Breathwork Practitioner Module

For people who have already completed the Breathing Space Breathwork Coach or Breathwork Facilitator training, there will be a separate 50-hour specialist module focused on perinatal and matrescence-informed practice.

This route allows existing practitioners to deepen their knowledge in this area without repeating their core breathwork training.

What We’ll Explore

The full curriculum is still being developed, but the training will explore areas including:

  • physiological and nervous system changes during pregnancy and the postnatal period

  • adapting breathwork practices for different stages and individual needs

  • contraindications, precautions and scope of practice

  • consent, choice and client agency

  • the emotional and identity transitions associated with matrescence

  • knowing when to adapt, pause, refer or work alongside other professionals

Who Is This Course For?

This training is for people who feel genuinely drawn to supporting others through pregnancy, birth, the postnatal period and the profound transition into parenthood.

It may be an area you already work in, or something you have felt called towards for a long time. Either way, the aim is to help you bring more knowledge, confidence and care to that work, so you can support people through a period of enormous physical, emotional and personal change with greater depth and responsibility.

Depending on your existing level of breathwork training, you will be able to join either the full Breathwork Coach pathway or the 50-hour practitioner module.
