About This Workshop

This is for you. Whoever you are, whatever you are carrying today.

There may be things you haven’t found the words for yet. Feelings you haven’t quite made sense of. Thoughts that have stayed private, unfinished or just out of reach.

In this two-hour Sunday Session, Dnika brings together breath and poetry for a workshop that is part practice, part play and entirely human.

The breath can help us notice what is here. Words can give us another way to meet it.

Sometimes the words come first. Sometimes the feeling does. Sometimes nothing needs to be named at all.

This isn’t about writing the perfect poem, counting syllables or performing for anyone. It’s an invitation to explore what happens when we give ourselves space to breathe, notice and write.

There will, of course, be poetry.

We’ll move between quieter breathing practices, reflective writing, playful prompts, an eclectic mix of music and moments of silence where nothing needs to happen.

There will also be time to reflect, connect and, if you want to, share something you’ve written. Sharing is always optional. What you write can remain entirely yours.

Bring a pen, a journal and a little curiosity.

And here is something from Dnika to begin:

bit by bit.
we expand.
inch by inch.
we shift.
mountain after mountain.
we descend to rise.
and in between.
we breathe.

What You’ll Experience

During the workshop, you’ll be invited to:

  • explore breathing practices that support slowing down and noticing what is happening in the body;

  • move between breath and writing, allowing each to inform the other;

  • use creative prompts, freewriting and music to experiment with words without needing to make them polished or perfect;

  • notice thoughts, feelings, images or ideas that emerge through the practice;

  • spend time in reflection and connection with the group;

  • share your writing if you would like to, with no expectation to do so.

You don’t need any experience with poetry, creative writing or breathwork.

You can take part in the way that works for you — slowing the breath, returning to natural breathing, pausing, writing less or more, or choosing not to share at any point.

Meet Your Guide – Dnika

Dnika Jones Travis, PhD, is a breathworker, leadership advisor, researcher and poet.

She came to breathwork after years of feeling overwhelmed, tangled in her thoughts and disconnected from her body. Breath gave her something steady to return to. As she began to make more space for what she was feeling, poetry became part of that process too.

Dnika is a Cohort Lead and faculty member at Breathing Space, where she trained as a Breathwork Facilitator and Teacher.

Through A Kind Breath, she shares breathwork with people who quietly carry a lot, creating grounded, human spaces where vulnerability, curiosity and laughter can all belong.

Her first poetry collection, beautifully and wildly human, grew from more than 20 years of journalling.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

hat is Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB)?

Conscious Connected Breathwork is a breathing practice where the inhale and exhale flow together without pauses. It can support emotional release, nervous system regulation, insight, and a deeper sense of connection to yourself. The breath becomes a guide — helping you listen inward and meet what’s present with care rather than force.

You can learn more about Conscious Connected Breathwork on our website.

Do I need any prior experience?

No experience is needed. This session is open to beginners and those who’ve practiced breathwork before. Clear guidance will be offered throughout, and you’ll be encouraged to engage with the practice in a way that feels right for you.

What do I need for the session?

  • Comfortable clothing you can breathe and move easily in

  • A yoga mat, mattress, or soft surface to lie on

  • A blanket or layers for warmth

  • Water nearby

  • A notebook if you’d like to capture reflections afterwards

A quiet, uninterrupted space is helpful, but not essential — please work with what’s available to you.

Is breathwork safe for everyone?

Breathwork is a powerful practice, and while many people find it supportive, it may not be suitable for everyone.

Online Conscious Connected Breathwork is not recommended if you have certain medical or psychological conditions, including (but not limited to):

  • Epilepsy

  • Severe asthma or respiratory conditions

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure

  • Certain heart conditions

  • A history of severe trauma or significant and active mental health challenges

If you’re unsure, we encourage you to reach out to us in advance or speak with your healthcare provider. Please ensure you read and complete the waiver before attending.

What will happen during the session?

The session will include:

  • A gentle arrival and grounding

  • Preparation of the body and breath

  • A guided Conscious Connected Breathwork journey

  • Time to rest, integrate, and land

  • Optional space for reflection or sharing

Everything is invitational. You’re welcome to engage in the way that feels most supportive for you.

Will I be expected to share or speak?

No. Sharing is always optional. Some people find it helpful to speak about their experience; others prefer quiet integration. Both are equally welcome.

What might I experience during breathwork?

Each breathwork experience is unique. You might feel relaxation, emotional movement, insight, or a sense of clarity. Some people notice physical sensations such as tingling, warmth, or light-headedness.

Whatever arises is approached with care and choice. There’s no “right” experience to have.

Can I attend if I’m pregnant?

Conscious Connected Breathwork is generally not recommended during pregnancy. If you’re pregnant and interested in breathwork, please get in touch, we’re happy to suggest gentler practices that are more suitable.

What if I need to pause or stop during the session?

You are always in control of your experience. You can slow the breath, return to natural breathing, or stop altogether at any time.

This is a trauma-sensitive space where listening to your body and honouring your needs is encouraged and respected.
