The Breathing Space 400-Hour Breathwork Facilitator Training is a trauma-informed, GPBA-recognised professional certification designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and experience to facilitate safe and effective breathwork sessions.

This comprehensive training combines theory, practice, and integration to help you become a confident, ethical, and trauma-sensitive breathwork facilitator.

General Learning Outcomes (GLO)

GLOs are the broad goals and overarching skills that our Breathwork Facilitator Training program aims to cultivate in our students by the end of the training. They encompass the knowledge, practical abilities, and professional attitudes that a competent and compassionate breathwork facilitator should possess.

We use these learning outcomes as our guiding stars to ensure that you gain a well-rounded foundation to support others through breathwork.

    • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the history, philosophy, science, and diverse techniques of breathwork.

    • Acquire in-depth knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and the impact of breath on the physical, emotional, and subtle bodies.

    • Develop a deep understanding of trauma, its impact on individuals, and its implications for breathwork facilitation.

    • Comprehend the principles of creating a safe and supportive container for clients, fostering trust and ethical practice.

    • Gain insight into the business aspects of breathwork, including marketing, client management, and financial sustainability.

    • Master a range of foundational and advanced breathwork techniques, adapting them to individual client needs.

    • Confidently facilitate breathwork sessions for both individuals and groups, fostering a safe and transformative environment.

    • Effectively utilize verbal cues, touch (when appropriate), and energetic transmission to guide clients through their breathwork journey.

The Art & Science of Breathwork Facilitation: A deeper look at the Breathing Space Curriculum

The curriculum is divided into three units:

  1. Unit One: Breathwork Coach Certification (50 hours)

  2. Unit Two: The Journey (Core Facilitator Training – 300 hours)

  3. Unit Three: Graduation Requirements Submission (50 hours)

Unit One: Breathwork Coach Certification (50 Hours)

The foundation of your facilitator pathway. This self-paced, asynchronous unit builds a solid understanding of breathwork science, coaching principles, and ethical, trauma-sensitive practice.

Synopsis:

Students develop foundational breathwork and coaching skills through guided lessons, practice assignments, and peer feedback. You’ll learn to structure and guide 1:1 and small-group sessions safely and effectively.

Core Modules:

  1. Foundations of Breathwork Coaching – Introduction to the role of a breathwork coach, setting intentions, personal practice development.

  2. Core Breathwork Techniques – Training in essential techniques such as Breath Awareness, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Coherent Breathing, 4-7-8, Box, Alternate Nostril, Ocean (Ujjayi), Extended Exhale, Breath of Fire, and others.

  3. The Science of the Breath – Basic anatomy and physiology, gas exchange, diaphragm function, and the nervous system.

  4. The Breath–Body Connection – Understanding regulation, resilience, and the stress response cycle.

  5. Breathwork and Internal Exploration – Using breath for emotional awareness, insight, and self-reflection.

  6. Introduction to Trauma Sensitivity – Recognising dysregulation, supporting grounding, and understanding trauma basics.

  7. Holding Space & Coaching Basics – Presence, attunement, active listening, and inclusive communication.

  8. Structuring a Breathwork Session – Opening, practice, and integration; 1:1 versus group facilitation; music and silence.

  9. Ethical Practice in Breathwork – Boundaries, consent, scope of practice, and professional responsibility.

  10. Inclusivity & Accessibility – Adapting sessions for diverse needs and creating inclusive environments.

  11. Practicum and Integration – Supervised practice sessions, case studies, and reflection.

General Learning Outcomes (GLOs):

By the end of Unit One, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of breathwork techniques and their applications.

  • Explain basic breath anatomy, physiology, and the nervous system.

  • Facilitate short 1:1 or small-group breathwork sessions safely and ethically.

  • Apply trauma-sensitive and inclusive practices.

  • Reflect on personal growth and professional development as a coach.

Unit Two: The Journey (300 Hours)

The core facilitator training. Delivered through live online seminars, mentorship, and peer collaboration, The Journey develops advanced facilitation skills and deeper embodiment of breathwork practice.

This unit is divided into three parts:

Part 1: Foundations of Facilitation

Develop the core skills, presence, and confidence required to lead others safely and effectively.

Modules:

  • Testimony and Prayer – Exploring personal story, intention, and the role of meaning in facilitation.

  • Ethics and Professional Practice – Applied scenarios, scope of practice, and deeper boundary awareness.

  • Introduction to Conscious Connected Breathwork (CCB) – The principles and structure of this technique.

  • Felt Sense – Cultivating somatic awareness and embodied listening.

  • The Frame – Building safety through clear structure, boundaries, and consent.

  • Contraindications & Difficult Situations – Understanding medical, psychological, and situational risks.

  • Planning and Running Sessions & Workshops – Session design for 1:1, groups, and online facilitation.

  • The Four Pillars of Preparation and Care – Preparing self, preparing space, self-care, and aftercare.

Learning Focus:
Students gain competence in holding space, creating safe containers, and responding appropriately to participant needs.

Part 2: The Bodies of Breathwork

Integrate a deeper understanding of the body, trauma, and the subtler dimensions of breathwork.

Modules:

  • Anatomy of the Breath – Revisiting structure and function with applied facilitation context.

  • Physiology of the Breath – Breathing patterns, regulation, and impact on the nervous system.

  • Introduction to Trauma – The science of trauma and embodied awareness.

  • Applied Trauma – Working sensitively with dysregulation and supporting integration.

  • The Esoteric Dimensions of Breathwork – Exploring creativity, sensuality, sexuality, healing, and transpersonal experiences within ethical boundaries.

  • The Spirit of Breath – Language, consecration, intention setting, simple ritual, and cultural integrity.

Learning Focus:
Students connect scientific, somatic, and spiritual aspects of breathwork, cultivating balance between grounded facilitation and intuitive awareness.

Part 3: Advanced Skills

Develop your professional identity, confidence, and refined presence as a facilitator.

Modules:

  • The Business of Breath – Ethical marketing, client management, and professional sustainability.

  • Advanced Skills: Voice – Using tone, pacing, and language to guide safely.

  • Advanced Skills: Touch – Understanding consent, appropriate use, and energetic sensitivity.

  • Advanced Skills: Transmission – Presence, resonance, and the non-verbal dimension of facilitation.

  • The Bell (Integration & Reflection) – Reviewing learning, self-assessment, and closure of the training cycle.

Learning Focus:
Students strengthen facilitation confidence, professionalism, and self-regulation.

By the end of Unit Two, students will be able to:

  • Facilitate Conscious Connected Breathwork and other advanced techniques ethically and safely.

  • Demonstrate competence in trauma-informed practice and emotional support.

  • Integrate somatic, psychological, and spiritual awareness in facilitation.

  • Apply professional standards, scope of practice, and reflective learning.

  • Plan and lead both group and individual sessions with confidence.

Unit Three: Graduation Requirements Submission (50 Hours)

This final unit consolidates all learning through supervised practice, documentation, and reflection.

Synopsis:

Students complete practical facilitation, reflective assignments, and final project submissions to demonstrate readiness for certification.

Requirements:

  • Daily personal breathwork practice (tracked)

  • Weekly longer Conscious Connected Breathwork sessions

  • Lead 5 individual sessions and 5 group sessions

  • Receive 5 individual sessions

  • Reflect on 9 faculty masterclasses

  • Complete 3 book or media reports

  • Submit 5 reflective blogs or vlogs

  • Design and complete a final graduation project

  • Submit practice and assessment checklists

Mentors review all materials, provide feedback, and confirm readiness for certification.

  • Demonstrate professional competence in leading safe, ethical breathwork sessions.

  • Apply theory, practice, and trauma sensitivity in facilitation.

After Graduation

Graduates earn the title Certified 400-Hour Breathwork Facilitator (GPBA Recognised).
You will be qualified to facilitate 1:1 and group breathwork sessions both online and in person, and to continue into advanced practitioner or teacher training with Breathing Space (800–1000 hours) or specialised CPD modules.

Live Sessions

Live sessions are dependent on the learning pathway:

  • Group Training: Join live, interactive online sessions with your cohort and experienced instructors. Benefit from community support and shared learning experiences. These sessions happen either once a week or once every 2 weeks depending on group agreements.

  • Apprenticeship: Receive personalized mentorship and guidance from a seasoned breathwork facilitator, tailored to your individual needs and goals. These live sessions will be agreed upon by the mentor and student.

  • Hybrid Training: Combine the benefits of online learning with in-person retreats for a truly immersive experience. The live sessions and online plan will depend on who is running the training. Contact the teacher for more detailed information.
